Last week, Duffield Hall buzzed with holiday cheer as our Middle School Drama class sang loud for all to hear! With two dazzling performances of Elf Jr. The Musical, the energy, the laughter, and the sheer talent were a powerful reminder of the incredible value of our performing arts programs. For two nights, our students masterfully navigated the musical numbers and brought the holiday elements to life that make this charming adaptation so special on stage. The cast delivered dual delights, with Josephine McConnon dazzling as Buddy the Elf on night one and Annabelle Kelly bringing her own unique magic to the role on night two. Equally shining were Miya Lefrancois and Sophia Nordby, who each took the stage as the captivating Jovie.

Moments like these truly highlight the amazing work our students and teachers put in, and the essential role these programs play in a student’s development. Our Head of School perfectly captured the feeling of everyone in the audience, saying, “Buddy the Elf and friends both entertained and amazed us as they brought this wonderful film comedy to life at Lake Tahoe School. Our students never cease to surprise and inspire us.” We are profoundly grateful for these opportunities that teach the technical skills of acting, singing, and choreography, and provide a safe and supportive space for students to develop a comfort and love of performing.

This success underscores a core strength of our school: the environment that allows performers who are also athletes, artists who hold athletic records, quiet students who find their voices and shine brightly on stage. It allows our students to feel a sense of belonging in any elective or hobby they land in. This encourages them to try new things, become well-rounded individuals, and gain confidence while they find their unique niche. Stepping up to perform builds the kind of self-assurance that carries over into every academic and social setting. Furthermore, mounting a complex musical requires exceptional teamwork, cooperation, and reliance on one another, forging strong bonds and a lasting sense of shared accomplishment. Thank you to the entire talented cast and dedicated crew of Elf Jr. The Musical for a truly memorable performance; they inspire us all with their courage to sing, dance, and shine. The future of the stage is certainly bright at Lake Tahoe School!
