Lake Tahoe School students, parents, teachers, staff and alumni gathered late this spring on the green space in front of its current state-of-the-art facility to celebrate the kickoff of an inspired campus expansion project.

Redesigning the campus grounds and traffic flow will lay the groundwork for the addition of a 12,800-square-foot Lake Tahoe School Athletic and Performing Arts Center.

“How appropriate and exciting it is today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lake Tahoe School with a ceremonial groundbreaking to signal the advent of our next 20 years,” said Ruth Glass, the Head of School who retired at the end of June.

“It’s a very exciting day today,” said Board Chair Nathan Horvath, who introduced his successor, Rob Alston. “A huge thanks to the Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation and to Matt White (Basin Street), all who were crucial in bringing this project forward.”

Site work to reshape the Lake Tahoe School campus officially began on May 16th. Phase one of the project will expand the school’s green space, enhance security, and prepare the grounds for phase two – construction of the new LTS Athletic and Performing Arts Center.

“This wonderful expansion will make Lake Tahoe School more well-rounded, more highly spirited, and an even better resource for the Incline Village community,” said parent and community supporter Dave Duffield.

Lake Tahoe School Board of Trustees Vice Chair Jennifer Watts agrees, “Enhancing our campus and adding the 12,800-square-foot Athletic and Performing Arts Center are just a few of the many ways LTS supports our students, our mission, and our motto: ‘where disciplined minds, sound character, healthy bodies, and creative spirits thrive.’

“In addition, we look forward to engaging with and hosting the community through school-sponsored events, performances and gatherings at this center.”

Lake Tahoe School’s mission is to nurture a lifelong love of learning with the purpose of developing critical thinkers and confident, articulate leaders for the 21st century. It enrolls students in grades PreK-8th grade.
