Last week, we were thrilled to host the brilliant, hilarious mind behind some of the Bobcat Treehouse’s favorite picture books, Creepy Carrots, Creepy Pair of Underwear, Creepy Crayon, and The Incredibly Dead Pets of Rex Dexter!
From the moment Aaron Reynolds stepped into our library, you could feel the excitement buzzing in the air. He has such a captivating way of engaging with kids, sharing stories not just about his books, but about the process of being an author. Students were shocked to learn that Mr. Reynolds had received over 300 rejection letters before becoming the successful author he is today. Talk about perseverance!
One of the highlights of his visit was when he talked about his new series, Jasper Rabbit’s Creepy Tales. Students were able to hear him read aloud his work and got a sneak peek at his upcoming new releases.
Aaron Reynolds shared with students that his love for reading didn’t start until the 5th grade when his inspiring teacher introduced him to the work of Roald Dahl. Before this, he didn’t know that books could be rowdy, fun, and a little bit creepy. His mission with his work is to write books that he would have wanted to read as a kid, which is why he tends to stick to funny and creepy themes in his writing (which the majority of our students can’t get enough of).
Aaron’s presentation was interactive and full of laughter. You could see the joy on our students’ faces as they connected with a real-life author. He truly brought the magic of reading and storytelling to life.
After his engaging presentations, Mr. Reynolds generously signed books. It was wonderful to see each child’s excitement as they met him personally, asked him questions, and got their favorite books autographed. What an unforgettable celebration of literacy!
