During their reading of Animal Farm, the 8th-grade class discussed the present and ever-changing use of propaganda after the “revolution” by the animals that take charge of the farm. Motives were debated, as were the tactics used to produce outcomes.

After finishing the story, students worked in groups to create 5-7 minute podcasts where they were tasked with analyzing the role of propaganda and indoctrination in the story, as well as analyzing how media outlets portray news events.

Each group finished by discussing the role education and free speech can play in combatting propaganda in today’s world.
