Students in Ms. Edwards’ 1st grade class won “Best Class” in the 2020 PBS Reno Writer’s Contest, topping students in K through 3rd grade from all of northern Nevada. Their names and their stories will be announced in June 2020.

The PBS KIDS Reno Writers Contest is a local contest designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. The Contest encourages children in grades K-3 to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original pieces. Each year, thousands of northern Nevada children participate in the PBS KIDS Reno Writers Contest, building their creative voices, and developing critical reading and writing skills.

Contest winners attend a celebration at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport where their stories and artwork are displayed during the summer months. Winners also receive a hardbound copy of their story, are recorded to appear on television, and are featured on the PBS Reno website. A local guest author shares their writing and signs autographs for the students at the airport event.
